The second Silver Strand “Books in the Afternoon” Book Club met at Nora Nicosia’s house on Tuesday, March 6th.
Our book was the best seller Beartown by Fredrik Backman.
We all loved the book and had a great discussion. The book was very well written with cliffhangers and twists and extensive character development.
It handled topics such as community, hopes, courage, secrets, treatment of immigrants and gays, and victims of rape. The central story was handling young athletes as seen in an ice hockey club for teenagers in a small town.
Our discussion was lively and extended to current events. We voted the book at 4.5 out of 5.
We also critiqued the Oscars…
We still plan to meet every other month and keep it causal. We would enjoy a few more members. Our next “Books in the Afternoon” meeting will be Tuesday, April 10th at 2 pm at Nora’s house on Spinnaker. We hope you can make it.
The book selected is The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn.
This is the author’s debut novel and was an immediate New York Times bestseller. We were intrigued by the description as “Hitchcockian thriller.” It’s about an agoraphobic woman who believes she witnessed a crime in a neighboring house.
