Last week, Mayor Eric Garcetti and I proposed using the former LA Metro bus yard on Main Street in Venice as “bride housing” — temporary shelter for people who are homeless. It is part of the mayor’s “A Bridge Home” initiative, an effort to reduce sidewalks encampments by giving people a place to stay until we find them long-term housing.
If you can’t make it to the open house, or you can’t wait until June 13, we have also posted a “Frequently Asked Questions” page on our website, which is full of useful information about the project and process.
A Bridge Home is our opportunity to provide a humane alternative to encampments in our neighborhoods by moving people from sidewalks to temporary housing and then to long-term housing. We are eager for your input on this proposal, and we know that the talent, heart and vision of our neighborhoods can make this successful. Working together, we can move forward, do good and get this done.
