The community organizer par excellence, the originator of all the clubs in the Silver Strand, the steadfast board member of the Silver Strand Marina HOA, a wise and wonderful neighbor, Nora Nicosia died peacefully the morning of July 28th at the grand age of 101 in her home in the Silver Strand.
The HOA Board and her many friends and neighbors will miss her input, ideas, feisty feedback, and dedication to her Silver Strand community and beyond.
Nora was born in Stamford, Connecticut on May 13, 1920. She moved with her husband Joey to California in her twenties. Joey was a Renaissance man and the love of her life. She lost Joey twenty-seven years ago. Together in 1988, they helped design their house on Spinnaker Mall.
Nora was a teacher as well as a school district psychologist. She was known for always dressing well, her enthusiasm for movies, books, and museums, and her paintings and personally crafted jewelry.
Nora worked tirelessly to contribute to the betterment of her community by serving for many years on the Silver Strand Marina Homeowner Association Board. She was an active board member at the time of her death.
Nora organized the Block Captains, a Book Club, two Film Clubs, the Kids Klub, Museum Trips, and Emergency Preparedness Committee. She was the first to volunteer to help, and was known to “volunteer” others to assist.
If there is a memorial for Nora, we will announce it in the Silver Strand News.
Rest in peace, Nora. We will carry on in your name.
